What is Thrive Market?
Thrive Market is an online grocery delivery company that you can place an order with and have it shipped directly to you. They offer a variety of items from groceries, household supplies, personal care items, frozen foods, etc. The only thing you will not find at Thrive is fresh produce. Upon signing up you will pay a $60 membership fee for a 1 year subscription to their services. When signing up they more often than not are running a deal for a gift. My gift was a $60 value that I honestly loved. It came with a cookbook, almond butter, ghee, and a few other things.
How often do I order?
So this will vary from family to family. I personally order once or twice a month at most. I try to buy in bulk to reduce the need to order as often. These orders on average for our family are about $150 - $200. Some may need to order more often and some will order less. I try to stick to a whole foods diet and cook a lot from scratch but they still offer many things that go along with our diet and lifestyle. And let's be real… having lots of snacks on hand for toddlers is essential and Thrive Market helps me ensure my kiddos are eating healthy snacks and treats daily.
Whole Foods & Trader Joe's Shoppers
Some may say Thrive Market offers products comparable to these popular stores. However, for me personally, these stores are over an hour away from my home and I simply do not have the extra time or money to travel to these stores. If you do have one or both of these near you, I would recommend price matching between them. Thrive Market does have a price match guarantee for the same exact products if found cheaper elsewhere. Which is a handy option as well. I personally find ordering online helps me budget better and would prefer to order online either way. In the store I find myself wandering too much and stumbling into sales for things we don’t need.
How it changed grocery shopping
When living a healthy lifestyle we try to do what we can at home. For produce we grow what we can in the summer months and preserve everything we can. For eggs we source them locally. I make all of our own breads, desserts, etc. For meat we primarily eat venison or go straight to local farms and butcher shops for beef, chicken and pork. However there are still many things I would need to go to the grocery store for and Thrive has helped me find those options that are much healthier and oftentimes less expensive. I try to shop the parameters of the grocery store as the inner aisles typically are full of highly processed foods. When I do need to go to the grocery store I spend much less time reading labels for dyes, high fructose corn syrup, added sugars, etc. I can filter all of these out in Thrive and find what I need much quicker. I used to dread the grocery store and now that I am not there very often I don’t mind popping in once and a while because I don’t need much. (Typically just produce in the winter months)
Special Diets
If your family follows any special diets Thrive makes it easy to filter these out to quickly find what you are looking for. For example we avoid dyes 100% so it is easy to filter out any food that may have dye in it. Or my fiance is gluten free so we as a family tend to avoid gluten or at least limit consumption. Thrive makes it easy to find gluten free alternatives to our regular foods. There are tons of other options you can filter by to fit your family's needs and lifestyle.
Bottomline
The bottom-line here is that Thrive Market is 100% worth it for our family. Not having many health foods stores nearby makes healthy foods much more accessible than lugging the kids 1 hour each way for a trip to the grocery store. Even if you do have a health foods store, Thrive Market makes it easy to have your groceries shipped right to your door in a timely fashion. On average it takes about 3 business days for my order to get to me. Even at Christmas my order was delivered 2 business days after I placed it.
